What reviewers say

History

The camera that brought the Voigtländer name back. Cosina’s first Bessa, on sale in February 1999 at ¥33,000, is a Leica-thread body with a mechanical 1–1/2000 metal shutter, a TTL meter read on three LEDs at the back edge of the top plate, and nothing to look through: no finder, no rangefinder. It was built for the 15mm f/4.5 and 25mm f/4 launched with it and the 12mm that followed, lenses so wide that scale focus is enough and an accessory finder in the shoe frames better than any window could. 320 grams, the lightest Bessa. In Asia it was also sold as the Cosina 107-SW with the 25.

Hamish Gill has owned two — “simplicity in design and function is a big draw to a camera for me” — and calls it low cost but functional, excellently suited to zone-focused wide-angle street work; Matt Osborne keeps one for the 15. It was discontinued in May 2003, by which time the Bessa R had a finder and the T a rangefinder.

A proxy service bids on your behalf, receives the item and forwards it, for a fee and a wait. Buyee, Jauce and ZenMarket each accept a Yahoo auction number directly.
